Course Description

A night navigation course designed for anyone that is concerned about being out on the hill when it gets dark, those that operate through the night (e.g. ultra runners) or beginners that want practical experience in map and compass navigation from day 1.

It’s based in Pollok Country Park which allows us to focus on learning in a safe and controlled environment, to make it easy to attend on public transport and without having to rely on perfect weather conditions, and for the surprisingly varied terrain and features the area offers.

Visibility is obviously much more limited compared to the daytime course - so this is the perfect way to practice solid navigation skills that can also be relied upon in bad weather and white-out conditions.

Bottom Line

Being stuck out at night in the outdoors can be scary if you’re not used to (or prepared for) it. I’ve seen first-hand how many of us are desperate to get off the hill before the light fades, at the end of an already long and tiring day. This is when accidents happen. ‘Fading Light’ will show you how to slow down and make good decisions from the moment you put the headtorch on.

This course is suitable for ages 16+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)
